Child Protection and Safeguarding in Sport in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s child protection framework establishes important protections for children across the environments in which they live, learn and participate.

The Saudi Child Protection Law protects children from abuse and neglect and recognises children’s mental, emotional, physical, educational and developmental needs.

Sport and recreation are specifically addressed.

Saudi Child Protection Law: Article 13

Article 13 prohibits involving children in races, sporting or recreational activities that pose a risk to their safety or health.

The Executive Regulations for the Child Protection System provide further provisions concerning children’s safety within sports and recreational environments, including appropriate supervision and safety measures.

Safeguarding Sport Saudi Arabia helps organisations understand this wider safeguarding context and strengthen the professional and organisational capability surrounding children and young people.
